A Swiss movie you need to see
Bon Schuur, Ticino is a creation of Peter Luisi offering an introspective and humourous view of Switzerland’s direct democracy. Without giving too much away, the plot involves a popular vote to change the country from having 4 languages to one. And that one being French.
Not all citizens and residents are enthusiastic about having to use French; the Swiss-German region struggles and the Italian region, the republic of Ticino, rebels. The main character of the movie, Walter Egli, is trapped between his difficulties switching to French at age 56 as well as having to do his job to deal with the rebels.
If you’re reading this in June or July 2024, you can see the movie at the Allianz Cinema at Zürichhorn, an open-air event. Information is available here and tickets here.
