Digital Republic

Uncomplicated. Great Value. No strings attached.

There are many ways to get mobile voice and data in Switzerland due to the market modernising and understanding what people want.

One of the stars of this change is Digital Republic. You can get a SIM within a day or so from them, delivered to you. The prices are brilliant value with a focus on what people want in the modern world – data!

With any configuration, you get a phone number and can receive SMS messages – so getting onto WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, Threema is no problem (this is of course using services where many focus their messages and calls, all for a great price of free!).

For those who are looking for crazy value, the 0.4/0.2Mb option is so cheap and works perfectly for a device that needs just a little connectivity to send and receive emails and text messages. There are speeds up to 2000/300Mb available, running on the 5G network from Sunrise, for CHF40 per month.

You want voice capabilities on their network? That will cost you CHF10 per month.

If you don’t like it, remove the renewal option and it’s finished at the end of the month. If you want a speed change, you can adjust this any time you like.

Signing up is not complicated

Digital Republic are very generous and will let you test their service for free for one month. This means that you get their “Flat 10” deal (good enough to watch Netflix on) plus voice calls, unlimited in Switzerland, for an initial month.

What do you need to do for this?

  • Fill out a form on their site so that the SIM can be delivered to you
  • When the SIM arrives, put it into your device and go to their Connect portal
  • There, you register for their portal and perform an online video identification – so have your ID or passport available
  • If you look like your ID picture (we all should but sometimes don’t!) then the SIM will become active within 5 minutes
  • Add a payment method in the portal and your account will renew automatically if you so wish – otherwise, you will be notified that you have a bill and can pay it. The default is to not auto-renew which is a very friendly approach
  • After identification, you can also add eSIM options to your account; this is available via the “Add a new device” function

Digital Republic, highly recommended!
